Saturday morning fog delayed start of contest. By 10am we had started flying our nine Primary and sixteen Sportsman pilots. Overall, forty-eight pilots have registered.
The results of the Intermediate, Advanced, and Unlimited known flights are in. For the Intermediate category, Jim Wells is first with 1575 out of 1970 possible. Bill Gordon is close on his heels with 1570. Neville Hogan has 1544 points. All three are flying the S2B model of the venerable Pitts. Intermediate has lucky 13 competitors.
For the Advanced we have six pilots. Sergey Prolagayev, Hans Bok, and Bill Finagin are leading in that order, with only about thirty points between first and third.
The Unlimited pilots have Dennie Thompson first with 2339 out of 3290 possible. Charles Schumacher has 2327 and Kendal Simpson has 1649. All three of them are flying the figures without zeros; but, deductions add-up in a hurry when there are many things to place on a figure. Our judges are sharp.
An afternoon thunderstorm brought a second delay near the end of the Intermediate free flights. Regardless, we accomplished one flight for everyone before breaking with the sun red on the horizon.
